The city of Oak Creek is the southernmost city in Milwaukee County. It lies along the shore of Lake
Michigan. The city is ten miles from downtown Milwaukee. The town of Oak Creek was
incorporated as a city in 1955, but its roots go back to the early 1800's. In 1832 the
government cut a dirt road to carry military supplies from Chicago to Green Bay. It
is along this road, which is still in use today as State Highway 32, that people set up a
permanent settlement. The City of Oak Creek, once populated by many working farms and
mostly farm land, grew from those humble beginnings into a thriving city of over
20,000 residents. |

Oak
Creek is the largest city in Milwaukee County, with 29 square miles, and is growing
rapidly. There are new subdivisions and shopping centers being developed, and older ones
are being expanded. The city has attracted a wide variety of Commercial, Industrial and
Residential developments. Several large retail stores, including Kohls, a large area
department store, American and Colders, both enormous furniture and appliance stores, have
located shops in the city. Many smaller specialty shops, local banks & grocery stores
have set up shop in the retail centers scattered throughout the city.
Oak Creek has all the amenities of a large city and easy access to
the Interstate
system. Mitchell International Airport is just 10 minutes
away. |
- Oak Creek has attracted a growing number of young professionals and their families. New
single-family homes have been built. These range from
small modest homes on lots of 8,000 square feet to large estate-type lots of 1.5 acres and
large, $200,000 homes.
- Oak Creek has come a long way since its days along a dirt road. It has
grown into a thriving city that has been built in an area with much natural beauty. The
city has preserved much of this beauty, in the way of parks and a nature preserve, so it
can be enjoyed by all who visit, or live here for generations to come.
