The city of Saint Francis, located five minutes from downtown Milwaukee, was incorporated in 1951 but its roots go back to the early 1800's when the first European settlers formed a largely farming community known as the town of Lake. In 1833 a group of nuns established St Francis of Assisi convent directed by Bishop Henni. The Bishop founded the St Francis Seminary in 1856 which still serves as the headquarters for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. After these events the area became known as St. Francis. The people of St. Francis are friendly and proud of their heritage and traditional values.

  St. Francis is home to sixty three acres of municipal and Bay View Park.JPG (25716 bytes) county parks, twenty three of which are located along the shoreline. There are many outdoor activities in which to join such as softball, baseball, soccer and tennis. The county's Oak Leaf Trail passes through Bay View Park along the lake front. The park also has many fishing locations along the shore. St. Francis Memorial Park, a municipal park, has a bandshell and the city holds concerts and other activities there throughout the summer.
   The city also hosts a variety of festivals and events in the summer, there is the "Music Under the Stars" program held June through August every other Wednesday night, The July 4th celebrations with a parade and all day family-oriented festivities and events and St. Francis Days held on Labor Day weekend.
  The city of St. Francis has experienced economic growth and development in recent years. The Harnischfeger corporation has located their world headquarters here and the Milwaukee BucksHarnischfeger World Headquarters Training Facility and Administration Offices have also moved to the city. These and many long-time business such as EZ Paintr help make the cities economy strong and vital to the economy of the entire area. The city government and the St. Francis Economic Development Committee work together to promote the locating and expanding of business in the city. The industrial base consists of both light and heavy manufacturing, producing an wide variety of products like machine parts, barrels, spices and paints. There are numerous other commercial and service business that help make a bright economic future for the city.  Many independent retailers throughout the city offer a wide variety of goods and services such as antiques, candy, toys and massage therapy. Two shopping centers are located in the city and both are anchored by large grocery stores. Whitnall Square and Layton Mart are home to many small retailers and specialty shops ranging from clothing and auto parts to hardware and beverages. The location of St. Francis makes it very accessible and easy to get around, it is just a few minutes from downtown Milwaukee or any other community in the area. St. Francis also has a wide variety of places to eat, from the neighborhood diner to fast food, you will find a place that suits your taste.
